I painted this landscape to capture that fleeting moment at the end of a September day, when summer is beginning to give way to autumn and the light takes on a completely different quality. Across the wetlands, the landscape is quiet and still beneath a dramatic sky, while the setting sun continues to push its golden-yellow light through the clouds.
I particularly love the contrast between the darker, heavier clouds and those intense yellows piercing through them. There is something almost powerful about the way the last sunlight refuses to disappear, illuminating the landscape before the day finally comes to an end.
For me, September Sun is about those moments of transition when one season is ending and another is beginning. September has always had a feeling of change about it, and I wanted to capture that sense of calm, reflection and warmth within the landscape.
The painting is both peaceful and dramatic, celebrating the beauty that can be found in the final light of the day.
