“Moorhen Pond” is an original acrylic painting on canvas, measuring 23 x 30 cm. I absolutely loved creating this small acrylic painting, it was so much fun to paint. In this piece, I wanted to capture a quiet, intimate moment in nature - somewhere peaceful and slightly hidden away.
In the background, I’ve used deep greens and rich browns to suggest a cluster of trees, with their trunks partially visible through the shadows. I’ve allowed light to filter through the gaps, bringing through softer, brighter greens in the grass and creating a sense of depth and calm.
As the scene moves forward, it opens onto a pond surrounded by wild, untamed grasses. I’ve layered yellows, greens, and browns to give texture and a natural sense of movement, as if the plants are gently shifting in the breeze. At the centre of the painting, I’ve placed a moorhen sitting quietly near its nest - this felt like the heart of the scene, a small, peaceful moment of life within the landscape.
Through “Moorhen Pond,” I wanted to celebrate the beauty of British wildlife and those still, easily overlooked moments in nature that invite you to pause and look a little closer.
